Iberville
Parish Veterans Memorial
$950,000.00
The work includes construction of a grass roots award
winning Veterans Memorial Facility as designed by Grace
and Hebert, Architects. The significant concrete
work included construction of approximately 6,000 sq.
ft. of open air plaza surrounded by poured in place walls,
columns and unusual geometric concrete masses resulting
in an impressive 21st century aesthetically appealing
monument to the veterans. A mixture of bronze structures,
concrete, specialty glass, internally illuminated translucent
masonry (Litracon imported from Hungary), special lighting
accents and water features including an infinity edge
pool with a waterfall, add interest to the project. Earthen
beams & terraces successfully make the transition
from natural grade to plaza level.
Guy Hopkins Construction self performed the earthwork,
concrete, masonry and water feature work, and was intimately
involved in the metal work. Graph-Tech Specialty
Fabricators fabricated and erected the bronze. Total
Electric Services furnished and installed the lighting. Architectural
Glass & Metal provided and installed the glass work. The
specialty work in this project and the unusual nature
of the design resulted in a few discoveries during construction
and exercised Guy Hopkins Construction’s talent for overcoming
challenges.
